It's been an unforgettable year in more ways than one. 56 tests this year, 41 of which were passes and of those 41 a huge 37 were 1st time passes. That's a personal achievement on its own for me but then to go and be nominated by my pupils, and to be chosen by the intelligent instructor awards, in the Top 100 driving instructors in the country and Top 6 for the north east of England for the fourth awards in a row is very humbling.
I've been very lucky with my pupils since starting in 2016, I remember my wife laughing when I first said I wanted to be an instructor. "Why are you laughing" I asked. "You don't like people" she said. Well it turns out that I do like people I just don't suffer fools. I love this job but god only knows what 2023 will bring. The cost of living rise is a nightmare. Prices have had to go up twice in the last 12 months. Trying desperately not to let that happen again but who knows what will happen.
I'm writing this the week before Christmas after finally being caught out by covid-19. All better now but the wife has had her first Christmas present from me as she is now on the covid list. I've still got 3 tests before the end of the year. I've got high hopes for them but anything can happen on the day and luck, yes luck, plays a big part. Fingers crossed they'll smash it on the day.
So here's to you all, cheers for choosing me as your instructor. We are already fully booked for the beginning of the year, health permitting. Lots of tests despite examiner strikes and covid cancellations and backlogs of 3 to 4 months. Let's get another 50+ people through their tests in 2023.
Lots of love
Ellis
